The Library

For Sure, a Great Success!!!

Satyam Prakash Gupta in Salvation Army Public School, Dar Es Salaam, TanzaniaTanzania is a beautiful place to be, it truly is lovely! The rate of development and ambitions it holds for its growth is amazing. Far and wide there are opportunities everywhere, from the bridge of Selander to the real estate of technical housing. However, there are so many targets that Tanzania needs to mark in order to get to their destination as the world's workforce!

For my grade 10 MYP Personal Project, I decided to learn more about business management and economics while following with my passion of helping disabled people, and working with the Sustainable Development Goals, Quality Education set out by the United Nations, by gathering money to invest in the building of a library for disabled children at the Salvation Army Public School. For this project I looked at economic opportunities available in Tanzania for which I got inspiration from a project done by a student previously. This student donated a few sewing machines to a group of home making women in Dar Es Salaam, the reason behind donating the sewing machines was to make an asset column for the women. The sewing machine acted like an asset as it provided a money flow. Their major investment was in the purchase of cloth however their end profit was greater. With this cycle they were able to perpetuate their business themselves.

My project aimed towards quality education in Tanzania, on the basis of an economic analysis I made about Tanzania's current state of opportunities regarding education. Inspiration towards the topic of education came after I watched a video by Shashi Tahroor.

Tanzania has its average population at the age of 17. This information means that Tanzania is a very youthful country, where the majority of its population is young and poised to grow and become the workforce of the country. What is surprising, is that this is happening at such a time when all the other countries are aging. The average age in the United States is 40, similarly in Canada that age is 42, in Germany it is 47, and Japan also 47. It is also predicted that by 2025 the US will be 5 million people short to sustain their economy. As I did research, I found many economic opportunities in Tanzania however the opportunity I found the most important was the growth of education. This opportunity of a demographic dividend can go in two ways, if the providence of education is done correctly then it will lead to a demographic dividend however, if not done correctly, a demographic disaster. The primary action needed to approach this potential demographic dividend is to perfect quality education and to polish on the skill development of citizens. Quality education on its own is a very important factor for any country, it is number 4 on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations.
